Team Meier Link

Meier Link, a vampire with more classical powers (the sunlight not only weakens them, but damages them as well. Sunlight could also potential kill them). He falls in love with Charlotte, a human, and refuses to turn her into a vampire. He would do anything for Charlotte. Charlotte also loves him very much and would also do anything for Meier Link. There is an iconic scene in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, where after being captured by the Marcus Brothers, a group of monster hunters, and with none of Meier Link's monsters to get Charlotte around, Meier actually does the unthinkable: He steps of out his carriage, into the sun, just to get her back.

Meier Link, is not really a full villain but an anti-villain, as he has no problem as to sending monster out to defend Charlotte from being taken away, but repeatedly we see his love for Charlotte, and we sympathize with him.
All these things about Meier, if applied to Edward would have made Edward a far better and believable character, with actual character development
